Fab City at the Jupiter Day

On March 1, the people of Hamburg flocked to Jupiter in Mönckebergstraße to experience the diverse program of Jupiter Day. Fab City was of course also there!

Once again on March 1, Hamburg’s Kreativplanet filled up for Jupiter Day with lots of people who wanted to experience and celebrate the diverse range of activities on offer at Jupiter. Of course, we were there too - in the Pop-Up Circular Hub on the 2nd floor of the Kreativplanet, we put on a wide range of learning and hands-on activities for visitors.

People were able to admire our informative and creative exhibition as well as the Circular Economy Office, listen to Niels give his hourly Fab City Intro talks, 3D print small objects in the OpenLab Microfactory, and customize some old T-shirts with new textile print designs with Karen and Gabi in light of the upcoming parliamentary elections with the motto “T-Shirts4Democracy”. Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., we had a full house almost the entire time and were able to introduce our vision to many people who may never have heard of the Fab City movement before.

Since summer 2022, Jupiter has probably been the largest temporary use in Hamburg - artists, upcycling fashion labels, cultural offerings and event spaces have coexisted in the space of a former department store. On the second floor, Fab City, together with the Hamburg Institute for Innovation, Climate Protection and Circular Economy GmbH, Hafen City University, the Senate Chancellery and the New Production Institute of Helmut Schmidt University, ran the Pop-Up Circular Hub (PUCH) as a hub for activities and players in the circular economy - with many open workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions, expert advice and a co-working space, the PUCH offered a broad program for all people interested in implementing a circular economy. As the third and probably last extension of the project expires in May of this year, this Jupiter Day will be the last.

Of course, there will still be events taking place in our space in April - we very much hope to see you there before the space has to be cleared in May. Due to the new regulations, which limit the number of visitors to Jupiter to a maximum of 200 people during its final months, we have to ask you to register in advance for the events on our space.

And what happens next? We are already working hard to find and prepare a new home for the Pop-Up Circular Hub so that this hub for makers, creatives and circular economy players can continue to exist in the future.
