What a Maker Weekend! On August 15 and 16, Hanover once again became a gathering place for tinkerers, creatives, tech enthusiasts, and everyone who’d rather make things themselves than just talk about them.
There was plenty to discover across three halls: Around 17,500 people attended, and projects were showcased, tested, and discussed at 245 booths. From a giant steel flower made from recycled car hoods that reacts to visitors to the five-meter-tall bird robot BuzzBird.
And right in the middle of it all: an impressive contingent from Hamburg! 💙

Among those in attendance were:
🔧 Attraktor e.V. and the Fab Lab Fabulous St. Pauli e.V. —the latter even organized the two projects from this year’s MakerChallenge and showed what an idea can become when you keep it simple.
🎓 Hamburg University of Technology and Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg), Bergedorf campus, showcased their university labs and, with them, a wealth of research, technology, and efforts to nurture the next generation of talent.
🚀 With Attraccess and InMachines , two spin-offs from our maker community were also represented with their own booths.
👟 And also the shoe workshop organizer Juraj Suska – Open Footwear, which just opened on August 13 at the FABRIC , was present in Hanover.
What makes us especially happy: The Maker Faire impressively demonstrates just how diverse the maker community is. It’s a place where education, research, startups, art, craftsmanship, technology, and sustainability come together—and, above all, where people who are eager to take matters into their own hands gather.
This is exactly the kind of culture we need for the transformation of our cities and our production: sharing knowledge. Trying things out. Building prototypes. Making mistakes. Doing better. And inviting others to join in.
If you want to get hands-on yourself, why not stop by one of Hamburg's many maker spaces?
Thank you to all the Hamburg-based makers, universities, labs, and spin-offs that have supported the made Fab City Hamburg in Hanover! 🙌
