Design your own sneakers!

Design your own sneakers!

Be there when OPEN FOOTWEAR (https://www.openfootwear.com/) celebrates its Hamburg premiere—an open-source research project that’s rethinking footwear from the ground up. Founded by Juraj Šuška, a shoe designer with over 25 years of experience, OPEN FOOTWEAR combines digital fabrication, local production, and open-source design to challenge the outdated, wasteful model of the fashion industry. Here, sustainability isn’t a compromise—it’s an integral part of how things are made, repaired, and worn from the very beginning. At FABRIC – Future Fashion Lab, you’ll gain insights into the tools, materials, and methods behind this transformation—whether you’re already a maker looking to deepen your skills or a newcomer who’s simply curious about how to make your own shoes.

Price: Free, with the option to purchase material kits for your first Open Footwear project (€55 for Open Barefoot, €75 for Open Run per kit). A full-day “Dirty Hands” workshop, where participants will build the shoes together in Hamburg, is currently being planned. The compact “Clean Hands” workshop on August 13 focuses on the know-how: an introduction to material selection, design, digital tools, gluing, and sewing.
