LAUDS Factories

Sustainable
Production
in the City

Two men from Fab City Hamburg are working on a large CNC machine in a workshop, while a laptop in the background displays a 3D model.

What does sustainable production in the city look like—open, digital, and accessible to many?

That is exactly what LAUDS Factories is exploring: an EU-funded research and innovation project (Horizon Europe) that is testing new approaches to local, resource-efficient, and circular manufacturing in major European cities.

LAUDS stands for Local, Accessible, Urban, Digital, Sustainable

In other words: local, accessible, urban, digital, and sustainable.

LAUDS Factories is working with an international consortium of partners to test open production sites and methods that bring together creativity, technology, and sustainability—from prototyping to application in an urban context.

A key component was open calls, through which teams of creatives and technology partners were able to carry out experiments with funding—including in the fields of mobility, energy, and agriculture/food.

Open Call #1 ended on July 29, 2024; Open Call #2 is now closed.
