: A Chance for Your Idea

Do you have an idea for a product that conserves resources, lasts longer, and can be manufactured locally?

The Maker Challenge is looking for creative, circular product ideas from Hamburg and the metropolitan region. The focus is on solutions that are durable, repairable, modular, reusable, or recyclable—and that thus contribute to a resilient circular city. Whether it’s an everyday item, an accessory, a piece of furniture, or a design object, what matters is that your idea can make a difference.

What It's All About

The Maker Challenge combines open innovation, community participation, and local production infrastructure. Students, startups, apprentices, high school students, companies, makers, and engaged citizens are all welcome to participate—anyone who is interested in collaborating to further develop, test, and put their ideas into practice.

What to Expect

You’ll receive support to turn your idea into a prototype or a small production run. This includes mentoring, grants to cover material costs, and access to workshops and educational facilities within the Fab City network. This creates a clear path from the initial sketch to a tangible result.

Why Join?

Because circular products drive real change. Because Hamburg can strengthen local value creation. And because your idea deserves the chance to gain visibility and become a reality.
